UK Restaurant Groups chasing the American dream

UK restaurant groups are increasingly exploring opportunities in the United States, inspired by both past successes and new market possibilities. Notable brands like Hawksmoor have already made their mark in America, while JKS and Dishoom are gearing up to expand their reach.

Meanwhile, US restaurant brands continue to target the UK market, with recent news highlighting Californian burger chain Carl’s Jr. partnering with Boparan Restaurant Group (BRG) and Chick-fil-A exploring another attempt at a UK presence. The Azzurri Group also plans to bring the LA-founded fast-casual concept Dave’s Hot Chicken to the UK.

On the other side of the Atlantic, UK restaurant groups are showing increased interest in the US market. Dishoom is set to make its debut in New York City this August through a collaboration with Keith McNally’s famous French brasserie Pastis in the Meatpacking District.

This venture will feature Dishoom’s popular breakfast naan roll and chili cheese toast. While Dishoom hasn’t explicitly announced plans for US expansion beyond this collaboration, the move indicates a strategic interest in the American market.

Several other UK operators are actively planning their US expansions. JKS, a London-based restaurant group, is exploring opportunities in major cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, with its Gymkhana and Brigadiers brands expected to debut there soon. Similarly, San Carlo Group is preparing to open a restaurant in Miami, which will serve as a test site for potential further expansion in the US.

As UK restaurant groups explore the vast American market, they aim to capitalize on new opportunities while navigating the challenges of international growth and competition.

This cross-continental interest highlights the dynamic nature of the global restaurant industry, where brands continually seek new horizons for growth and success.
